Chap. 19.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 3694 of the Code of Virginia,
as amended, relating to the election, appointment and terms of office of members
of the Corporation Commission. [H 65]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia :
1. That section thirty-six hundred ninety-four of the Code of Vir-
ginia, as amended, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 3694. Election or appointment of members of State Corpora-
tion Commission ; terms ; commission.—The State Corporation Commis-
sion shall consist of three members and the regular term of office of each
member shall be six years, to begin on the first day of February next suc-
ceeding his election. Commissioners, except as hereafter provided, shall
be chosen by the joint vote of the two houses of the General Assembly.
Commissioners elected for regular terms shall, at the beginning of the
term for which elected, and those appointed or elected to fill vacancies,
shall immediately upon their election or appointment, enter upon the
duties of their office.
Whenever a vacancy in the Commission shall occur or exist when the
General Assembly is in session it shall elect a successor for such unex-
pired term. Ifthe General Assembly is not in session, the Governor shall
forthwith appoint pro tempore a qualified person to fill the vacancy for a
term ending thirty days after the commencement of the next session of
the General Assembly, and the General Assembly shall elect a successor
for such unexpired term.
The Governor shall commission each of the members of the Com-
mission, who shall file his commission in the office of the clerk of the
Commission.
