Chap. 159.—An ACT to create the Virginia World War II History Commission
and prescribe its powers, duties and functions, to appropriate funds for the
use of the Commission so created, and to authorize counties and cities to fur-
nish certain information and material for the use of the Commission. _[H 109]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. Section 1. There is hereby created a commission to be known
as the Virginia World War II History Commission, to consist of twelve
members appointed by the Governor to serve at his pleasure. All vacan-
cies in the Commission shall be filled in the same way. The Commission
shall perfect its own plan of organization and elect its own officers. Its
members shall serve without compensation, but shall be paid their actual
and necessary expenditures in the discharge of their duties. The Com-
mission may obtain and pay for such clerical and other assistance as
may be necessary in its work.
Section 2. It shall be the duty of the Commission to collect, assemble,
edit and publish such information and material with respect to the con-
tribution to World War II made by Virginia and Virginians as in its
opinion is most worthy of preservation.
Section 3. In order to carry out the purposes of this act there 1s
hereby appropriated to the Commission, out of the general fund in the
State treasury, the sum of twelve thousand five hundred dollars or so
much thereof as may be necessary; provided, however, that no part of
such fund shall be released to the Commission unless and until the Gov-
ernor has notified the Comptroller in writing that such part thereof is
available to the Commission for expenditure. All payments out of this
appropriation shall be made by the State Treasurer upon warrants of
the Comptroller issued upon vouchers signed by the chairman of the
Commission or such other person as the Commission designates.
Section 4. Any county or city of the Commonwealth may assemble
and submit to the Commission information and material relating to its
contribution and that of its citizens to World War II, and the governing
body of any county or city may appropriate for this purpose such funds
as it deems necessary.
