Chap. 147.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 1, as amended, of Chapter
15 of the Acts of Assembly of 1927, approved April 11, 1927, relating to zoning
in certain counties, so as to make certain change or changes as to the scope
of the act. {H 250]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That section one, as amended, of chapter fifteen of the Acts of
Assembly of nineteen hundred twenty-seven, approved April eleven, nine-
teen hundred twenty-seven, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 1. For the purpose of promoting the health, safety, morals
and general welfare of the community, the governing body of any county
having a density of population of more than five hundred a square mile.
or of any county adjoining a city having a population of one hundred
thousand or more, all as shown by the last preceding United States census.
may by ordinance regulate and restrict the height, number of stories and
size of buildings and other structures erected in the county, or the per-
centage of a lot that may be occupied by the building or structure, or the
size of yards, courts and other open spaces, the density of population.
and the location and use of buildings, structures and land for trade, in-
dustry, residence or other purposes, and may prescribe the types of mate-
tials to be used in buildings and other structures.
