Chap. 9.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 3 of Article V of an act entitled
“An act to incorporate the town of Phoebus, in Elizabeth City county.”, ap-
proved January 22, 1900, to increase the school tax that may be levied, and to
declare the existence of an emergency. [H B 12]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
three of Article V of an act entitled “An act to incorporate the town of
Phoebus, in Elizabeth City County.”, approved January twenty-second,
nineteen hundred, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
Section 3. The town council may annually levy, assess and collect,
in addition to the taxes for general purposes, a tax not in excess of one
dollar and seventy-five cents on the one hundred dollars of assessed
value of all the property in the town subject to taxation by the town, for
the support and maintenance of the public schools in the town.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
