Chap. 98.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled “An Act to authorize the
board of supervisors or other governing body, of any county adjoining a city
having a population of more than 100,000 and less than 150,000, according to the
last preceding United States census, to levy a special assessment in any magis-
terial district for fire protection, lights, drainage and other improvements, and
‘to validate levies heretofore made for such purposes,” approved February 9,
1940, so as to bring certain additional counties within the provisions of the act.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors or other governing body of any county adjoining a
city having a population of more than one hundred thousand and less
than one hundred and fifty thousand, according to the last preceding
United States census, and the board of supervisors or other governing
body of any county having a density of population of six hundred or
more to the square mile of highland, according to the last preceding
United States census, shall have the power and authority to levy a
special assessment on the property in any magisterial district in such
county, subject to local taxation, for the purpose of raising funds to
provide fire protection, lights, drainage, and other improvements deemed
necessary by such board or governing body, for the welfare of the people
in such district; and that any such levy heretofore levied, or levied and
collected, by such board or governing body, shall be considered as, and it
is hereby, covered by this act.
2. An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
