Whereas, during the year nineteen hundred and thirty-six, and for
ome time prior thereto, the State Highway Department of Virginia was
yperating a rock quarry at East Lexington, in Rockbridge county, and
i he quarry the blasting done by the agents and ser-
rcussions therefrom
damaged the house and home of one, Annette Houston Harlow, locatec
about two hundred yards from the quarry, to the amount of nine hun.
dred and sixty dollars, which damage would not have occurred if the
blasting had been done in a careful manner; and
Whereas, it is deemed proper that Annette Houston Harlow b
compensated for the damage so suffered by her, and there is no provisio!
of law under which such compensation can be paid; now, therefore
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That ther
be paid to Annette Houston Harlow, as compensation for the damage
so suffered by her, the sum of four hundred and eighty dollars out o
funds appropriated to the Department of Highways, by the State Treas
urer, on a warrant issued by the Comptroller.
2. This act shall take effect on July first, nineteen hundred an
forty-two.
