Chap. 400.—An ACT to authorize the Governor to execute a certain inter-State
compact pursuant to congressional enactments providing for the establishment
of the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, to provide for the appoint-
ment of commissioners to represent the Commonwealth on the said Commission,
the Commissioner of Fisheries being designated as one of the same, and to
appropriate certain funds for the purposes of this act. [S B 276]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows:
Section 1. The Governor is hereby authorized to execute, on behalf
of the Commonwealth, a compact with the States of Maine, New Hamp-
shire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey,
Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and
Florida, or with such of them as, by their respective legislative bodies,
enact legislation with like provisions to those of this act, pursuant to
Public Resolution numbered seventy-nine, Seventy-sixth Congress, ap-
proved June eighth, nineteen hundred and forty, and to House Resolution
numbered six thousand and twenty of the Seventy-seventh Congress, for
the better utilization of the fisheries of the Atlantic seaboard. Such com-
pact shall be in form substantially as set out in the said congressional
enactments. .
Section 2. If and when the Governor has executed the compact as
aforesaid, he shall appoint two commissioners to represent the Common-
wealth of Virginia as members of the Atlantic Marine Fisheries Com-
mission. One of the members so appointed shall be a member of the Gen-
eral Assembly, and the other a citizen having a knowledge of and an inter-
est in marine fisheries problems. Both of such members shall serve at the
pleasure of the Governor. A third member of the said Commission repre-
senting Virginia shall be the Commissioner of Fisheries. The powers,
duties, functions, and compensation, if any, of the Commissioners shall be
such as are provided in the said compact.
Z. Beit further enacted, That there is hereby appropriated the sum
of thirteen hundred dollars ($1,300.00) from the general fund of the
State treasury, for each year of the biennium beginning July first, nine-
teen hundred and forty-two, to be expended, on warrants of the Comp-
troller issued upon vouchers signed by the Governor, for the purpose of,
and in accordance with the terms of, the compact hereinabove authorized
to be executed.
