Chap. 383.—An ACT to authorize the State Highway Commission to name any
bridge across any stream in any county, town or city and on any State Highway,
upon the request of the governing body of such county, town or city, under
certain circumstances and upon certain conditions. [H B 349]

I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
State Highway Commission may, upon the request of any county, town or
city, evidenced by a resolution of the governing body thereof, name in
honor or memory of the deceased person named in said resolution, any
bridge, not heretofore named by said Commission in pursuance of an act
of the General Assembly, across any stream in such county, town or city
and on any route of the State Highway system, and may place appropriate
marker on such bridge, provided such county, town or city, by said
resolution of its governing body, agrees to pay the cost and expense
incident thereto. Provided, further, that where any bridge is within three
miles of the corporate limits of a city or town the governing body of such
city or town shall have equal rights with the board of supervisors in the
naming of said bridge and the name shall have the joint concurrence of
the board of supervisors of the county and the governing body of the city
or town.
