Chap. 38.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Chapter 284, as heretofore amended, Acts
1930, approved March 24, 1930, relating to appropriations by counties, cities and
towns for the relief of injured policemen and firemen, under certain conditions,
so as to make the provisions thereof applicable with respect to policemen and fire-
men injured prior to the effective date of the 1930 act. [fH B 79]

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That chapter
two hundred and eighty-four of the Acts of the General Assembly of
nineteen hundred and thirty, approved March twenty-fourth, nineteen
hundred and thirty, be amended and re-enacted, as follows:
The council or other governing body of any city or town, and the
board of supervisors of any county, shall have authority, in its discretion,
to make monthly appropriations for the relief of any police officer, special
police officer or fireman totally disabled, either temporarily or permanently
by injury received while actually in the performance of the duties of his
office, for such time and in such amounts as the respective council or
board of supervisors may deem best, provided, however, that the total
appropriation so made shall not exceed the salary being paid the officer at
the time of such disability. The authority hereinabove conferred shall
apply with respect to any police officer or fireman so injured prior to the
date upon which chapter two hundred and eighty-four of the Acts of the
General Assembly of nineteen hundred and thirty became effective, as
well as to any police officer or fireman so injured subsequent to such
effective date.
