Chap. 330.—An ACT to provide that service in the armed forces of the United
States shall be a discharge of the obligation of any person to render certain
services in consideration of any State scholarship awarded to or received by
such person as a student in certain institutions of higher learning. [H B 225]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That service
by any person in any of the armed forces of the United States as an of-
ficer, private or nurse, or in any other capacity, regardless of length of
service, in time of war or other declared national emergency, is hereby de-
clared to be a complete and final discharge of any obligation of such per-
son to serve the Commonwealth as a teacher in the public schools, or in
any other capacity, including any such obligation which has been reduced
or computed into terms of a monetary obligation in lieu of such service,
arising by virtue of any statute or of any contract entered into between
such person and any State owned or State supported institution of higher
learning, in consideration of any State scholarship awarded to or received
by such person as a student in such institution, provided such service is
terminated by an honorable or medical discharge; provided, further, that
such person shall have entered such service with the armed forces within
four years after leaving such State-owned or State-operated institution.
