1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
one, as heretofore amended, of chapter three hundred and three of the
Acts of the General Assembly of nineteen hundred and twenty, approved
March nineteenth, nineteen hundred and twenty, be amended and re-
enacted, as follows:

Section 1. Any female over the age of eighteen years may be ap-
pointed deputy clerk by the clerk of any court of this Commonwealth, and
with the consent of the court may qualify as such, and thereafter perform
all the duties of such office as fully and effectually as if she were a male,
and the court shall not refuse to approve any such appointment solely
because such appointee is a female.
