the Governor of Virginia to lend to Williamsburg, Incorporated, the old

the State capitol to Richmond, a part of the furniture of the capitol at Wil-
liamsburg, upon the complete restoration of the old capitol building, at Wil-
liamsburg.”, approved March 6, 1930, as amended, so as to authorize the
Governor to consent to the removal of the “warming machine” from the old
Capitol in Williamsburg, where it is presently lodged, to the old Courthouse
in Williamsburg, which has been restored and is maintained as a museum of
Colonial Williamsburg, Incorporated, or to such other suitable place as ap-
proved by the Governor. : [H B 252]
Approved March 2, 1942
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That an act
entitled “An act to authorize the Governor of Virginia to lend to Wil-
liamsburg, Incorporated, the old speaker’s chair and the ‘warming ma-
chine’ which were, before the removal of the State capitol to Richmond,
a part of the furniture of the capitol at Williamsburg, upon the complete
restoration of the old capitol building, at Williamsburg.”, approved
March sixth, nineteen hundred and thirty, as amended, be amended and
re-enacted, as follows:
Section 1. The Governor of Virginia is hereby authorized and
empowered to lend to Colonial Williamsburg, Incorporated, a corporation
of Williamsburg, Virginia, the old speaker’s chair and the “warming
machine,” formerly of the furniture of the old capitol in Williamsburg,
and now lodged in the capitol building at Richmond, upon the complete
restoration of the old capitol building at Williamsburg, to be placed in
said old Capitol, and to there remain during the pleasure of the Governor,
or the General Assembly of this State, the title thereto to continue in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. If the restoration of the speaker’s chair
herein referred to is attempted, the Governor of Virginia shall be advised
thereof, and such restoration shall be as to the manner thereof, approved
by him. |
Section 2. In view of representations on behalf of Colonial Wil-
liamsburg, Incorporated, that the ‘“‘warming machine’ which has been
lent to Colonial Williamsburg, Incorporated, in pursuance of section one
of this act and is presently lodged in the restored old Capitol in Wil-
liamsburg, was never actually lodged in the original or first Capitol
building which has been restored and that it is desirable to correct the
resultant anachronism by removing the “warming machine” from the
restored old Capitol to a building in the City of Williamsburg of a period
concurrent with the “warming machine,” the Governor is authorized to
consent to the removal of the “warming machine” from the old Capitol
at Williamsburg, where it is now lodged, to the old Court House of
seventeen-seventy, at Williamsburg, or to such other appropriate building
of a concurrent period as may be hereinafter selected by Colonial Wil-
liamsburg, Incorporated, subject in all respects to the provisions and
conditions of the loan thereof as set forth and contained in section one of
this act, and subject to the further provision that if removal from the old
Court House of seventeen-seventy shall subsequently be contemplated,
the Governor of Virginia shall be advised thereof and such removal
shall be effected only with his approval.
2. “An emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
