Chap. 405.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 24 of an act entitled ‘An Act to
provide a new charter for the city of Winchester and to repeal the existing
charter of said city, and the several acts amendatory thereof, and all other acts
or parts of acts inconsistent with this act so far as they relate to the city of Win-
chester."’, approved February 20, 1932, so as to abolish the office of police justice,
and provide for the appointment of a trial justice for said city. [S B 357]

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion twenty-four of an act entitled ‘‘An Act to provide a new charter
for the city of Winchester and to repeal the existing charter of said
city, and the several acts amendatory thereof, and all other acts or
parts of acts inconsistent with this act so far as they relate to the city
of Winchester.”, approved February twentieth, nineteen hundred
and thirty-two, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Trial Justice
Section 24. The common council of the city of Winchester shall,
on or before July first, nineteen hundred and forty, elect a trial justice
for the city of Winchester, for such term and at such salary as the
council may hereafter designate by ordinance. The said trial justice
shall, in civil matters within the limits of said city and in criminal
matters within the limits of the city and for one mile beyond, have and
possess the same powers, authority and jurisdiction as are now, or may
hereafter be, vested by general law in the trial justices of the various
counties, within their counties. The office of police justice of the
city of Winchester is hereby abolished, such abolishment to be in
force from and after June thirtieth, nineteen hundred and forty.
