Chap. 270.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled ‘‘An act to authorize
boards of supervisors, councils and other governing bodies of counties, cities
and towns to enter into certain agreements for the purpose of providing for
their respective counties, cities and towns paintings, carvings, sculpture and
other works of art; and for such purposes to authorize such boards of supervisors,
councils and other governing bodies to furnish materials, services and supplies
and to appropriate and expend money,’ approved February 9, 1940, so as to
include relics and buildings to house such relics, paintings, carvings, sculpture
and other works of art within the terms of the said act. {[S B 250]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That an
act entitled ‘‘An act to authorize boards of supervisors, councils and
other governing bodies of counties, cities and towns to enter into
certain agreements for the purpose of providing for their respective
counties, cities and towns paintings, carvings, sculpture and other
works of art; and for such purposes to authorize such boards of super-
visors, councils and other governing bodies to furnish materials,
services and supplies and to appropriate and expend money,’’ ap-
proved February ninth, nineteen hundred and forty, be amended and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1. The board of supervisors, council or other governing
body of each county, city and town in this Commonwealth is hereby
authorized and empowered to enter into such agreements with ap-
propriate authorities or agencies, acting under legislation enacted
by the Congress of the United States, or with any person, firm, asso-
ciation or corporation, public or private, to provide and secure for
such county, city or town such relics and such paintings, carvings,
sculpture and other works of art as may be specified in such agree-
ments, and appropriate buildings to house the same, and for such
purposes the board of supervisors or other governing body of such
county, and the council or other governing body of such city or town,
notwithstanding any provision of its charter to the contrary, may
furnish such materials, services, and supplies and appropriate and
expend from the general funds of such county, city or town such
moneys as the said board of supervisors, council or other governing
body may deem proper.
