Chap. 196.—An ACT to require the trial justice of each and every county through
any part of which both State Highways, number one and number two pass, to
appoint a clerk; to prescribe the powers and provide for the compensation of
such clerks, and to fix their terms of office. (H B 255]

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
trial justice of each and every county through any part of which the
roads designated as State Highway number one and State Highway
number two, both pass, shall appoint a clerk. The powers and duties
of such clerks shall be the same as the powers and duties of clerks
appointed by trial justices under the provisions of section forty-nine
hundred and eighty-seven-g of the Code of Virginia, and their com-
pensation shall be fixed and paid in accordance with the provisions
of said section. The terms of office of such clerks shall be coincident
with that of and be at the pleasure of the trial justices by whom they
are respectively appointed; provided that, if the trial justice of any
such county has not already appointed a clerk, he shall, on or before
July first, nineteen hundred and forty, appoint a clerk to serve during
the unexpired part of the term for which he was appointed.
