Chap. 115.—An ACT establishing a commission to prepare plans for appropriate
exercises to be held in 1944 commemorating the 325th Anniversary of the
meeting in 1619 at Jamestown, Virginia, of the first Legislative Assembly in
the New World. [S B 103]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That a
commission of ten members is hereby created for the purposes of
this act. The Governor, president of the Senate and the speaker
and clerk of the House of Delegates shall be members thereof. The
other members shall be appointed as follows: two by the president
of the Senate, two by the speaker of the House of Delegates, and two
by the Governor. The said-commission shall prepare plans for
appropriate exercises to be held in nineteen hundred and forty-four
commemorating the three hundred and twenty-fifth anniversary of
the meeting on July thirtieth, sixteen hundred and nineteen at James-
town, Virginia, of the first Legislative Assembly in the New World.
The said commission is authorized to confer with such individuals,
sroups of citizens, associations, commissions or other agencies as may
be interested in, or seeking to accomplish, the purposes of this reso-
lution. The said commission shall recommend its findings to the
nineteen hundred and forty-two session of the General Assembly of
Virginia with such other matters as the said commission shall deem
appropriate.
2. The commission shall assemble upon call of the Governor,
shall select a chairman and secretary for the membership of the
commission, and may secure such clerical assistance as may be neces-
sary to carry out the purposes hereof and as may be secured without
cost to the State.
3. The members of said commission shall receive no compensa-
tion for their services or reimbursement of expenses.
