Chap. 63.——An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Roanoke county,
the council of the city of Roanoke, the council of the town of Salem in
Roanoke county, and the council of the town of Vinton in Roanoke county
to severally appropriate sums not in excess of $5,000.00 for each such political
sub-division, to be used for the purpose of commemorating the hundredth
anniversary of the establishment of Roanoke county. | [fH B 260]

Whereas, by an act of the General Assembly of Virginia, passed
on the thirtieth day of March, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, and
becoming effective on the first day of May of the said year, the
county of Roanoke was established as a political subdivision of the
State of Virginia; and
Whereas, the year nineteen hundred and thirty-eight marks the
hundredth anniversary of the establishment of such county, and the
citizens thereof, including those residing in the towns of Salem and
Vinton, and the citizens of the city of Roanoke, are jointly interested
in commemorating the event by an adequate and appropriate centennial
celebration ; and
Whereas, the governing bodies of the said political subdivisions
have adopted resolutions endorsing such celebration and requesting the
General Assembly of Virginia to authorize each of them severally
to make a suitable appropriation for such purpose; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Roanoke county, the council of the city of
Roanoke, the council of the town of Salem in Roanoke county, and
the council of the town of Vinton in Roanoke county, are hereby
severally authorized and empowered to appropriate from the public
funds of the respective county, city and towns, whether budgeted or
not, a sum of money not in excess of five thousand dollars for each
county, city and town, the said sums when so appropriated to be
used in celebrating and commemorating in an appropriate manner the
said hundredth anniversary of the establishment of the county of
Roanoke as a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
