Chap. 288.—An ACT to authorize the County School Boards of Tazewell County
and of Buchanan County to provide for the free transportation of both ele-
mentary and high school pupils in said counties and to authorize the Board
of Supervisors of said counties to raise money for such purpose by a county
school levy in addition to that authorized by section six hundred and
ninety-eight-a of the Code of Virginia. [S B 307]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows:
Section 1. The county school boards of Tazewell County and
Buchanan County shall have authority, in their discretion, in the exer-
cise of their duties with reference to the transportation of pupils under
the provisions of section six hundred and fifty-six of the Code of
Virginia, to provide adequately for the free transportation of both
elementary and high school pupils in said counties if such boards shall
deem it proper and expedient so to do. The board of supervisors of
Tazewell County and the board of supervisors of Buchanan County
shall have authority, in their discretion, to raise money necessary to
carry out the provisions of section one of this act, in accordance with
the recommendations of the county school board of such county with
respect thereto, by annually levying and collecting in the manner pre-
scribed by law a county school tax in said county in addition to the
tax authorized by section six hundred and ninety-eight-a of the Code
of Virginia for the establishment, maintenance and operation of the
public schools in said county.
Provided, however, that the levy authorized by this section, as it
applies to Tazewell County, shall not exceed the sum of fifteen cents
on the one hundred dollars of assessed values.
