Chap. 254.—-An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 9 of an act entitled “An
act to provide a new charter for the city of Roanoke and to repeal the
existing charter of said city and the several acts amendatory thereof, and
all other acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act so far as they relate
to the city of Roanoke”, approved March 22, 1924, said section relating to
the appointment of the civil and police justice. [H B 354]

I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That sec-
‘ion nine of an act entitled an act to provide a new charter for the city
of Roanoke and to repeal the existing charter of said city and the
several acts amendatory thereof, and all other acts or parts of acts
nconsistent with this act so far as they relate to the city of Roanoke,
ipproved March twenty-second, nineteen hundred and twenty-four,
ye amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 9. Elections by council, when held, terms, et cetera —Dur-
ng the month of September, nineteen hundred and twenty-six and
luring the month of September of every second year thereafter, the
-ouncil shall elect a city clerk, a city auditor (the duties of both offi-
‘ers, city clerk and city auditor may in the discretion of council be
mposed on one individual), and a city attorney, each of whom shall
serve for a term of two years from the first day of October next
‘following the date of his election and until his successor shall have
yeen elected and qualified. During the month of September, nineteen
vundred and thirty-eight and during the month of September of
every fourth year thereafter, the council shall elect a civil and police
justice, to serve for a term of four years from the first day of October
1ext following the date of his election, and until his successor shall
1ave been elected and qualified. The council in its discretion may
lect an assistant civil and police justice for such term as may be
osrescribed by ordinance, not exceeding two years.
