Chap. 248.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Kate J. Foster. [fH B 159]

Whereas, on the fourteenth day of March, nineteen hundred and
twelve, William M. Foster, who was then Commonwealth’s Attorney
for Carroll county, was wantonly shot down and killed while in dis-
charge of his duties in the prosecution of a criminal case in the circuit
court of said county; and
Whereas, since his death, his widow, Mistress Kate J. Foster, has
bravely struggled against the adversity brought about by his untimely
death, but is now destitute and without adequate means of support;
and
Whereas, it is deemed fitting and proper that the Commonwealth
of Virginia should, in some small measure, demonstrate her apprecia-
tion and gratitude for the courageous service of the said William M.
Foster by compensating his bereaved widow and relieving her present
state of destitution; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
Comptroller be, and he is hereby, authorized to issue his warrants on
the Treasurer, payable out of the general fund in the State treasury.
in favor of Mistress Kate J. Foster, for the aggregate sum of twelve
hundred dollars, payable in twenty-four equal consecutive monthly in-
stallments of fifty dollars, beginning on the first day of July, nineteer
hundred and thirty-eight, in appreciation of the courageous service of
her gallant husband, and to relieve her distress brought about by his
unfortunate and untimely death, and the State Treasurer is hereby
authorized and directed upon the issuance of such warrants to pay the
respective sums to the said Mistress Kate J. Foster.
