Chap. 247.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Thornton Massie. [H B 149]

Whereas, by chapter two hundred and twenty-one of the Acts of
the General Assembly of nineteen hundred and thirty-six, approved
March twenty-third, nineteen hundred and thirty-six, there was ap-
propriated to Mistress Thornton Massie, the widow of the Honorable
Thornton Massie, who was shot down and killed while presiding over
the circuit court of Carroll county, in the trial of a criminal case in
said court on March fourteenth, nineteen hundred and twelve, the
sum of twelve hundred dollars, payable at the rate of fifty dollars per
month, through a period of two years beginning July first, nineteen
hundred and thirty-six, which period will expire July first, nineteen
hundred and thirty-eight; and,
Whereas, it is deemed fitting and proper that such monthly pay-
nents be extended through an additional period of two years; now,
herefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
Comptroller be, and he is hereby, authorized to issue his warrants on
the Treasurer in favor of Mistress Thornton Massie, in the aggregate
sum of twelve hundred dollars, payable out of the general fund in
the State treasury as follows: fifty dollars on July first, nineteen hun-
dred and thirty-eight and fifty dollars on the first day of each succeed-
ing month thereafter, to and including June first, nineteen hundred
and forty, and the State Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed
upon the issuance of such warrants to pay the said sums to the said
Mistress Thornton Massie.
