Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That sec-

April eleventh, nineteen hundred and twenty-seven, as heretofore
amended, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1. For the purpose of promoting the health, safety, morals
or the general welfare of the community, the board of supervisors in
any county having a density of population of more than five hundred
per square mile according to the last United States census, or in any
county of the Commonwealth adjoining a city having a population
of one hundred thousand, or more, as shown by the last United States
census, may, by ordinance, regulate and restrict the height, number
of stories and size of buildings and other structures, or percentage of
lot that may be occupied, or size of yards, courts and other open spaces,
the density of population, and the location and use of buildings,
structures and the land for trade, industry, residence or other specific
uses of the premises in said county.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
