Chap. 117.—An ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding thereto a
new section numbered 3015-a, authorizing the councils or other governing
bodies of cities to permit certain encroachments on the streets and alleys
thereof. [H B 181]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
Code of Virginia be amended by adding thereto a new section num-
bered thirty-hundred and fifteen-a, which new section shall read as
follows:

Section 3015-a. It shall be lawful for the councils or other govern-
ing bodies of cities to adopt ordinances authorizing owners of build-
ings or structures encroaching in, upon and over any public streets or
public alleys therein, within such limitations. as they may prescribe,
to maintain such encroachments as they exist at the effective date of
this act until such buildings or structures are destroyed or removed;
provided, that nothing herein contained shall be construed to relieve
said owners of any negligence on their, part, on account of any such
