Chap. 355.——An ACT to amend an act entitled an act to authorize the board of
supervisors of counties having a density of population of more than five hun-
dred per square mile according to the last United States census, to divide
the area of said counties into one or more districts, and in such districts to
regulate the use of land and of buildings or other structures and the height
thereof, and also to establish building lines and to regulate and restrict the con-
struction and location of buildings and other structures in said counties; to
authorize such boards of supervisors to adopt all necessary regulations for
carrying into effect the purposes of this act; to provide for zoning commis-
sioners and boards of zoning appeals in such counties, their powers and duties ;
to provide for appeals from such zoning commissioners and boards of appeals
and the effect thereof; to authorize such boards of supervisors to appoint
administrative officers; to prescribe the powers and duties of such adminis-
trative officers; to provide for the enforcement of this act and to prescribe
penalties for the violations thereof, approved April 11, 1927, as heretofore
amended, by adding thereto a new section numbered 6-a, prescribing the con-
ditions upon which zoning regulations, restrictions and boundaries may be
amended, supplemented, changed, modified or repealed in event 7 pre

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That an act
entitled an act to authorize the board of supervisors of counties having
a density of population of more than five hundred per square mile,
according to the last United States census, to divide the area of said
counties into one or more districts, and in such districts to regulate the
use of land and of buildings or other structures and the height thereof,
and also to establish building lines and to regulate and restrict the con-
struction and location of buildings and other structures in said
counties ; to authorize such boards of supervisors to adopt all necessary
regulations for carrying into effect the purposes of this act; to provide
for zoning commissioners and boards of zoning appeals in such
counties, their powers and duties; to provide for appeals from such
zoning commissioners and boards of appeal and the effect thereof; to
authorize such boards of supervisors to appoint administrative officers ;
to prescribe the powers and duties of such administrative officers; to
provide for the enforcement of this act and to prescribe penalties for
the violation thereof, approved March eleventh, nineteen hundred and
twenty-seven, as heretofore amended, be further amended by adding
thereto a new section numbered six-a, which new section shall read
as follows:
Section 6-a. In case of a protest against a proposed amendment,
supplement, change, modification, or repeal of any regulation, restric-
tion, or boundary, duly signed and acknowledged by the owners of
twenty per centum or more either of the area of land included in such
proposed amendment, supplement, change, modification, or repeal, or
of the land within five hundred feet of the boundary of the area of
land included in such proposed amendment, supplement, change, modi-
fication, or repeal, such proposed amendment, supplement, change,
modification, or repeal shall not become effective except by the favor-
able vote of four-fifths of all members of the board of supervisors or
other governing body of such county.
