Chap. 197.——An ACT to prohibit the pollution of the waters of the Chicka-
hominy river and its tributaries, and to provide means for enjoining violations
of this act, and to prescribe the duty of the court to which relief is applied

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That it
shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation, or municipality to
place or allow to pass into the waters of the Chickahominy river or
into the waters of any of the streams flowing into such river, any
refuse, sewerage or waste of any mine, municipality, manufactory or
manufacturing process of any kind or any other substance, solid or
liquid, which pollutes or renders impure the water in such river. The
Commonwealth, any county, or any individual affected by a violation
of this act shall have the right to proceed by injunction against any
person, natural or corporate, of any municipality violating the provi-
sions of this act and on proof that any such person or municipality
is violating the provisions of this act it shall be the duty of the court
applied to to permanently enjoin such person or municipality from
further polluting said river or its tributaries.
