Chap. 103.—An ACT to authorize the city of Petersburg to acquire a tract of
land in Prince George County, known as the “Crater Farm” and the land
adjacent thereto, together with the museum thereon and the contents of such
museum, and thereafter to use or dispose of the same for the best interest of
the said city. {H B 551]

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the city
of Petersburg be, and it is hereby, authorized if in the opinion of the
council of the said city it is proper so to do, to acquire by purchase
the whole or any part of that certain tract of land in Prince George
county, Virginia, known as the “Crater Farm” and the land adjacent
thereto, containing in the aggregate approximately one hundred and
twenty-three and forty one-hundredths acres, the scene of the Battle
of the Crater fought on the thirtieth day of July, eighteen hundred
and sixty-four, together with the museum thereon and the contents of
such museum, and, thereafter, to use or dispose of the same, or any part
thereof, in such manner as in the opinion of the council of the said
city may best promote the interest of the said city.
An emergency existing, by reason of the necessity for acquiring
the right to purchase this property without further delay, this act
shall be in force and effect from its passage.
