1934 and 1935 to issue short term obligations and to pledge therewith as col-

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the city
of Bristol shall, in addition to the powers conferred upon it by general
law and its charter and all amendments thereof, have power to issue
its notes or other interest-bearing obligations for not exceeding five
years from maturities of bonds hereinafter referred to and to pledge
as collateral thereto its term and serial bonds maturing and unpaid at
any time during the calendar years nineteen hundred and thirty-four
and nineteen hundred and thirty-five, the rate of interest on such obli-
gations not to exceed the rate provided for in such bonds.
2. An emergency existing by reason of certain maturing bonds
heretofore issued by said city, this act shall be in force from and after
its passage.
