Chap. 34.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2639 of the Code of Virginia,
relating to issuance of new State bonds and certificates for bonds and certifi-
cates lost or destroyed. [S B 67]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
twenty-six hundred and thirty-nine of the Code of Virginia be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 2639. How lost bond or certificate renewed—When any
bond or certificate shall be lost or destroyed, the owner thereof may
produce to the Treasurer, in whose office the said bond or certificate is
registered, proof of his having advertised the same once a week for four
successive weeks in a newspaper; file in the office of the said Treasurer
an affidavit, setting forth the time, place, and circumstance of the loss
or destruction, and execute a bond to the Commonwealth, with one or
more sureties, approved by the said Treasurer, with condition to indem-
nify the Commonwealth and all persons against any loss in consequence
of issuing a new bond or certificate in place of the one so lost or
destroyed; and thereupon the said Treasurer may, at any time before
the said bond or certificate becomes due and payable, or at any time
as to any such bond or certificate which has become due and payable
on or after July first, nineteen hundred and thirty-two, or may here-
after become due and payable, issue a new bond or certificate and reg-
ister the same.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
