Chap. 268.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 4696 of the Code of Virginia,
relating to the use of opium, marihuana, loco weed, and other sedative, nar-
cotic and hypnotic drugs, chemicals and substances. [H B 236]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
forty-six hundred and ninety-six of the Code of Virginia be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 4696. Use of opium, marihuana, loco weed, et cetera, in the
manufacture of cigarettes, cigars, et cetera, prohibited —Any manufac-
turer or manufacturers of cigarettes who shall employ opium, marihu-
ana, loco weed, or any other sedative, narcotic or hypnotic drug, like
chemical or substance, either in the tobacco used or paper wrappers of
cigarettes, cigars, tobacco or any otherwise undiluted foodstuff or bev-
erage, other than that advertised, sold and used as a drug or medicine,
shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be fined not
less than one hundred dollars nor more than one thousand dollars, or
confined in jail not less than six months nor more than twelve months,
or both, for each offense.
