Chap. 262.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to make it
lawful to take, catch or have in possession “sponge” crabs at certain times,
and empowering the Commissioner of Fisheries to close the season upon
certain conditions, approved March 28, 1932. [H B 196]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That an act
entitled an act to make it lawful to take, catch or have in possession
“sponge” crabs at certain times, and empowering the Commissioner
of Fisheries to close the season upon certain conditions, approved
March twenty-eighth, nineteen hundred and thirty-two, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1. It shall be lawful for any person holding a proper license,
to take or catch “sponge” crabs from any of the waters of this State,
at any time from April first to June thirtieth, both inclusive, in anly
year, notwithstanding any provision of any existing law to the contrary.
Provided, however, that the Commissioner of Fisheries may, when
he deems it in the interest of conservation of said sponge crabs, close
the season after giving fifteen days’ notice of his intention so to do,
such notice, in writing, to be posted at the office of said commissioner
and a copy thereof mailed to each inspector.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
