Chap. 221.-An ACT for the relief of Norella J. Wood, Mary Norella Wood,
James Newton Wood and John Edwin Wood. [H B 364]
Approved March 27, 1934
Whereas, under date of February sixth, nineteen hundred and
thirty-two, the Industrial Commission of Virginia, acting upon a claim
under the Workmen’s Compensation Act, in the name of Norella J.
Wood and others versus the Commonwealth of Virginia, on account
of the death of James Newton Wood, made an award allowing Norella
J. Wood fourteen dollars per week for the joint and equal use of her-
self and the infant dependents, Mary Wood, James Wood and John
Wood, payable every four weeks beginning with December nineteenth,
nineteen hundred and thirty, and to continue for a period of three
hundred weeks from the date of accident, unless subsequent conditions
should require a modification, together with the sum of one hundred
and fifty dollars for burial expenses; and,
Whereas, by chapter four hundred and four of the Acts of nine-
teen hundred and thirty-two, approved March twenty-third, nineteen
hundred and thirty-two, the General Assembly appropriated the sum of
twenty-five hundred and sixty-two dollars for the use and benefit of
Norella J. Wood, Mary Norella Wood, James Newton Wood and John
Edwin Wood, payable out of the fund in the State treasury appro-
priated to the office of Attorney General for the enforcement of pro-
hibition by House bill one hundred and four for the biennium nine-
teen hundred and thirty-two and nineteen hundred and thirty-four and
payable as provided for in the award of the Industrial Commission
above referred to; and,
Whereas, although the full sum of twenty-five hundred and sixty-
two dollars aforesaid has not already been paid in full, as provided in
the act referred to, but has been set aside by the Comptroller out of
the appropriation mentioned in the said act, and which, when paid as
provided in the aforesaid award, will have aggregated said sum of
twenty-five hundred and sixty-two dollars; and,
Whereas, the total aggregate amount which has been and will here-
after be payable under the aforesaid award will at the rate of fourteen
dollars per week for three hundred weeks amount to the sum of forty-
two hundred dollars and thus leave payable upon said award the sum
of sixteen hundred and thirty-eight dollars; and,
Whereas, there may remain in the appropriation to the office of the
Attorney General for the enforcement of prohibition by House bill one
hundred and four for the biennium nineteen hundred and thirty-two
and nineteen hundred and thirty-four, after paying all other expenses,
a sum sufficient to pay the said sum of sixteen hundred and thirty-eight
dollars ; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That there be,
and is hereby, appropriated the sum of sixteen hundred and thirty-eight
dollars to Norella J. Wood for the joint and equal benefit of herself and
Mary Wood, James Newton Wood and John Edwin Wood, payable
out of the fund in the State treasury appropriated to the office of the
Attorney General for the enforcement of prohibition by House bill one
hundred and four for the biennium nineteen hundred and thirty-two-
nineteen hundred and thirty-four, and payable as provided for in the
award of the Industrial Commission heretofore mentioned in this bill.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
