Chap. 123.—An ACT to amend the Game, Inland Fish and Dog Code of Virginia
by adding thereto a new section to be numbered 68-a, relating to dogs run-
ning at large. [fH B 80]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
Game, Inland Fish and Dog Code of Virginia, be amended by adding
thereto a new section, to be numbered sixty-eight-a, which new section
shall read as follows:
Section 68-a. Boards of supervisors authorized to prevent dogs
from running at large—The boards of supervisors of the counties of
this State are hereby authorized, in their discretion, to prohibit the run-
ning at large of dogs during such months as they may designate. For
the purpose of this act, a dog shall be deemed to run at large while
roaming, running or self-hunting off the property of its owner or cus-
todian and not under its owner’s or custodian’s immediate control.
It shall be the duty of the game wardens to enforce the provisions of this
act, and any person who after having been notified by any landowner,
game warden or other officer of the law that his dog or dogs are run-
ning at large, permits his dog or dogs to run at large thereafter, shall
be deemed to have violated the provisions of this act, and shall be
liable to a fine of not less than five nor more than twenty-five dollars
for each violation.
