Chap. 11.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 74 of act entitled an act
to provide a new charter for the city of Portsmouth, approved March 10, 1908,
relating to the appointment for unexpired terms of certain officers. [H B 1

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
seventy-four of an act entitled an act to provide a new charter for the
city of Portsmouth, approved March tenth, nineteen hundred and eight,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows: ,
Section 74. The judge of the court of hustings for the city of Ports-
mouth shall in the event a vacancy should occur, by death, resignation,
removal, or otherwise, in the office of clerk of the court of hustings, city
sergeant, commissioner of the revenue, attorney for the Commonwealth,
and city treasurer, fill the unexpired term of said offices by appointment.
The council is hereby empowered to fill the unexpired terms of office of
all other officers (whether elected or appointed) unless otherwise pro-
vided by law.
