1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
town sergeant of the town of Chilhowie shall hereafter be appointed
by the council of said town instead of being elected by popular vote as
heretofore; and the person first appointed sergeant under the pro-
visions of this act shall assume the duties of the office upon the ex-
piration of the term of office of the present sergeant of said town.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
