Chap. 40.—An ACT to authorize and empower the treasurer of Wise county,
with the consent and approval of the board of supervisors, to sell for cash
before maturity, any bonds of said county or of its districts, owned and held in
any sinking fund of said county, and to exchange such bonds which have not
matured for bonds which have matured; to ratify and validate purchases of
certain bonds by said treasurer, and to declare any such bonds so sold or
_ exchanged, valid and binding obligations of said county or magisterial district
on behalf of which originally issued. [H. B. 44]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
treasurer of Wise county be, and he is hereby, authorized and empow-
ered, by and with the consent and approval of the board of supervisors
of said county, to sell for cash, any bonds of said county, or of any
magisterial district thereof owned and held by said county in any of
its sinking funds before maturity of said bonds; and to exchange
any such bonds which have not matured for payment for any other
bonds of said county or its magisterial districts which have matured
for payment; provided, however, that no such sale or exchange shall
be made of any such bonds on a basis of less than par. All purchases
of any bonds of said county heretofore made by the treasurer of said
county, whereby the sinking fund of one issue was invested in the
bonds of another issue, are hereby ratified and validated.
Any such bonds of the said county, or of any magisterial district
thereof, owned and held by the said county in any of its sinking funds,
sold or exchanged as herein provided, shall be valid and binding obliga-
tions of the county or of the magisterial district by and on behalf of
which originally issued.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
