Chap. 401._An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2095 of the Code of Virginia,
as amended, relating to prisoners on the State convict road force. [H B 250]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
two thousand and ninety-five of the Code of Virginia, as amended, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 2095. Every person held to labor in the State convict road
force for the nonpayment of any fine imposed upon him, shall be re-
quired to work out the full amount thereof, including the legal costs,
at the rate of seventy-five cents per day for each day so held, Sundays
excepted, and shall be entitled to a credit of twenty-five cents for each
day of his confinement, whether he labors or not. A statement of the
amount of the fine, with the costs and the number of days’ labor re-
quired to discharge the same, shall be made out under the direction of
the officer imposing the fine, and delivered to the person in charge of
the chain-gang or superintendent of the convict road force at the time
he receives the delinquent. No person shall be held to labor in any
chain-gang for the nonpayment of any fine imposed upon him for a
longer period than six months.
