Chap. 40.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of the county of Henrico
to establish and maintain a fire department in sanitary district number one of
said county, created and established by an act approved April 11, 1927, to ac-
quire sufficient real estate upon which to construct an engine house and to equip
the same with the requisite fire fighting engines and apparatus and to authorize
said board to provide for the operation and maintenance of the same.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of the county of Henrico be and is hereby au-
thorized and empowered:
(a) To establish, maintain and operate, for the benefit of the pub-
lic, a suitable fire department to protect the property, real and personal,
within the limits of said district, known as “Henrico county sanitary
district number one,” from loss or damage by fire.
(b) To pay the cost of providing necessary and appropriate appa-
ratus for fighting fires in said district and the cost of an engine house
or station for the housing of the same.
(c) To employ and fix the compensation of any technical, clerical,
or other force and help which from time to time in the judgment of
said board may be necessary for the construction, operation or main-
tenance of such fire department.
2. In order to raise the funds necessary to carry into effect the
foregoing powers, the said board of supervisors shall have power to
levy annually a tax upon the assessed value of all real and personal
property in said district subject to local taxation.
3. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
