Chap. 278.—An ACT to provide for ascertaining and marking the true boundary
line between Virginia and the District of Columbia, authorizing the appoint-
ment of commissioners therefor, and to provide an appropriation therefor.

Whereas, an uncertainty exists as to the true boundary line between
the District of Columbia and the State of Virginia; and
Whereas, there has been introduced in the congress of the United
States a bill authorizing a commission to be set up to ascertain, deter-
mine and mark the true boundary line; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
governor be, and he is hereby, authorized and empowered, in his dis-
cretion, to designate and appoint from the electorate of the State one
commissioner who is hereby authorized and empowered to act in con-
junction with a like commissioner to be appointed by the President of
the United States pursuant to an act of congress, and said two com-
missioners so appointed to be empowered to select a third in their dis-
cretion to act with them, to determine, ascertain and mark the true
boundary line between the District of Columbia and the State of
Virginia.
2. The said commissioner appointed by the governor shall have
full power and authority, acting in conjunction with the other com-
missioner, or commissioners, to do and perform all acts and duties
which may be granted to the said commissioners by the congress of
the United States. and the findings of said commissioners shall have
the same binding force and effect upon the Commonwealth of Virginia
as the proposed act of congress shall have upon the United States and
the District of Columbia.
3. Provided that the commission hereby created shall incur no
obligation, either individually or as a commission which shall be a
charge upon the Commonwealth.
