Chap. 254.—An ACT for the protection of banks depositing securities with the
chairman of the State highway commission or the State highway commission
to secure money deposited in banks by division engineers of the department of
highways going into their custody under the provisions of subsection (1) of
section 10 of chapter 79 of the Acts of 1928, and for the return of securities so
deposited. [H B 329]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
State of Virginia shall be responsible for the safe keeping of all bonds
or other securities deposited with the chairman of the State highway
commission or the State highway commission as surety on account of
funds deposited in banks by division engineers of the department of
highways, going into their custody under the provisions of subsection
one (1) of section ten (10) of chapter seventy-nine (79) of the Acts
of nineteen hundred and twenty-eight, and that, if such bonds or
securities or any of them shall be lost, destroyed or misappropriated,
the State shall make good such loss to the bank making such deposit
of its bonds or other sureties.
2. Upon the closing of accounts of district engineers with banks,
its bonds and other securities then on deposit shall be returned to said
banks.
