Chap. 23.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 78, of the Code of Virginia,
concerning representation in Congress and apportionment therefor. [H B 75]
Became a law without the governor’s signature, February 16, 1932.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
seventy, of the Code of Virginia, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows: }
Section 70. The cities of Newport News, Hampton and Freder-
icksburg, and the counties of Accomac, Caroline, Elizabeth City, Es-
sex, Gloucester, King and Queen, Lancaster, Mathews, Middlesex,
Northampton, Northumberland, Richmond, Spotsylvania, Warwick,
Westmoreland and York shall form the first congressional district.
The cities of Norfolk, South Norfolk, Portsmouth and Suffolk,
and the counties of Isle of Wight, Nansemond, Norfolk, Princess Anne
and Southampton shall form the second congressional district.
The cities of Richmond and Williamsburg, and the counties of
Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, James City,
King William and New Kent shall form the third congressional
district.
The cities of Petersburg and Hopewell, and the counties of Amelia,
Brunswick, Dinwiddie, Greensville, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Notto-
way, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince George, Surry and Sussex
shall constitute the fourth congressional district. !
The cities of Danville and Martinsville, and the counties of Pittsyl-
vania, Henry, Franklin, Patrick, Carroll, Grayson, Halifax and Char-
lotte shall form the fifth congressional district.
The cities of Roanoke, Lynchburg, Radford and Clifton Forge, and
the counties of Campbell, Bedford, Roanoke, Montgomery, Floyd,
Craig, Botetourt and Alleghany shall form the sixth congressional
district.
The cities of Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Winchester, Staunton
and Buena Vista, and the counties of Albemarle, Clarke, F rederick,
Madison, Rappahannock, Page, Greene, Rockingham, Shenandoah,
Warren, Amherst, Appomattox, Augusta, Bath, Buckingham, Cum-
berland, Fluvanna, Highland, Nelson and Rackbridge shall constitute
the seventh congressional district.
The city of Alexandria and the counties of Arlington, Fairfax,
Loudoun, Prince William, Fauquier, Stafford, King George, Culpeper,
Orange and Louisa shall constitute the eighth congressional district.
The city of Bristol and the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise, Dickenson,
Buchanan, Russell, Washington, Smyth, Wythe, Pulaski, Giles, Bland
and Tazewell shall form the ninth congressional district.
