Chap. 21.—An ACT to amend an act entitled an act to create a State commission
on conservation and development; to prescribe its powers and duties ; to vest it
with powers and duties now vested by law in the water power and development
commission, the State geological commission, the State geological survey, the
office of the State geologist, and the office of the State forester ; and to vest it
with power to condemn and acquire land and other property for public park
purposes, approved March 17, 1926, as amended by an act approved March 26,
1928, by adding thereto a new section to be numbered 14-a, transferring to the
said commission supervision and control of the State museum. [H B 24]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That an act
entitled an act to create a State commission of conservation and de-
velopment ; to prescribe its powers and duties; to vest it with powers
and duties now vested by law in the water power and development
commission, the State geological commission, the State geological sur-
vey, the office of the State geologist, and the office of the State for-
ester ; and to vest it with power to condemn and acquire land and other
property for public park purposes, approved March seventeenth, nine-
teen hundred and twenty-six, as amended by an act approved March
twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred and twenty-eight, be amended by add-
ing thereto a new section to be numbered fourteen-a, to read as fol-
lows.
Section 14-a. The State commission on conservation and develop-
ment shall have control and supervision of the State museum, includ-
ing all flags, pictures, models, collections, Specimens, relics, and ex-
hibits now in the said museum or that may hereafter be made a part
thereof. This said commission shall be charged with the duty of ar-
ranging, and caring for the same, and may, in its discretion, accept, on
behalf of the State, gifts for inclusion therein, and dispose of any
flags, pictures, models, collections, specimens, relics, and exhibits, or
parts thereof, which for any reason may be or may become unfit or
unsuited for exhibition purposes. It shall also have power, within the
limits of any appropriation which may be made for such purpose, to
purchase or otherwise acquire for the said museum, additional flags,
pictures, models, collections, specimens, relics, and exhibits,
The said commission may make rules and regulations concerning
the said museum so as to make it of the greatest benefit to the public.
The State museum shall, unless it becomes necessary to move the
same in which case the director of the division of grounds and build-
ings shall assign for it other suitable space easily accessible to the
public, remain in its present location in the State Library building.
