Chap. 105.—An ACT to amend an act entitled an act to provide for the relief of
volunteer firemen killed or injured while engaged in fighting fires or in going
to or returning therefrom in Arlington county and the city of Alexandria, ap-
proved April 11, 1927, as heretofore amended by enacting, and adding thereto,
a new section, to be designated as section 9, providing for similar relief of city
sergeants and their deputies, sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, policemen and special
policemen. : [H B 117]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That an
act entitled an act to provide for the relief of volunteer firemen killed
or injured while engaged in fighting fires or in going to or returning
therefrom, in Arlington county and the city of Alexandria, approved
April eleventh, nineteen hundred and twenty-seven, as heretofore
amended, be amended by enacting, and adding thereto, an additional
section, to be designated as section nine, to read as follows:
Section 9. Financial relief shall also be extended by the county
of Arlington and the city of Alexandria to city sergeants and their
deputies, sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, policemen and special policemen, of
said county and city, who are killed or injured while in the discharge
of their official duties, such relief to be in similar amounts and paid
in the same manner as the relief provided for volunteer firemen, is di-
rected to be allowed and paid, by sections three, four, five, six and
seven of the said act, to which this section is added. For the purposes
of this section, the clerk of the circuit court of said county and the
clerk of the corporation court of said city shall secure, and keep a
record of, all legally appointed deputy sheriffs, policemen and special
policemen in said county and city, respectively; and any disputed
question of fact arising under the operation of this section shall be
settled in accordance with the provisions of section eight of said act.
