CHAP. 38.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2795 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to the support of the poor and the sum necessary for their
support. [S B 93]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
ion twenty-seven hundred and ninety-five of the Code of Virginia,
e amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 2795. Sum necessary for the support of poor; how
aised; to whom paid—In every county the amount which will be
equired for the support of the poor, shall be chargeable on such county,
ind the board of supervisors, in making the annual levy, shall pro-
ride for raising the said amount. The superintendent of the poor shall
‘eceive from the treasurer, from time to time, upon warrants drawn
xy the boards of supervisors, such sums as they may deem necessary
0 be expended in the support of the poor; dispose of the same as
the board may direct; and the account therefor in his annual settle-
ment with, and report to said board.
Boards of supervisors are hereby authorized, in their discretion,
‘O0 appropriate such sums to incorporated charitable organizations as
are licensed by the State department of public welfare under the pro-
visions of section nineteen hundred and thirty-five-a of the Code of
Virginia, as to them may seem proper, for the maintenance and care
of such dependent children as the charitable organizations may care
for from the respective counties.
Boards of supervisors may make contracts with such incorporated
charitable organizations as are licensed by the State department of
public welfare under the provisions of section nineteen hundred and
thirty-five-a of the Code of Virginia, for the care and maintenance of
dependent children resident in the county.
