Chap. 33.—An ACT to authorize*the board of supervisors of the counties of
Richmond, Halifax, Craig, Wise, Lancaster and Roanoke to dispose of the
poor farms, detention homes and other similar property of those counties.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
boards of supervisors of the counties of Richmond, Halifax, Craig,
Wise, Lancaster and Roanoke be, and they are hereby, authorized, in
their discretion, to sell at private or public sale the lands and build-
ings and other properties constituting the poor farms or detention
homes or other similar property of said counties on the best terms
obtainable, and if the boards of supervisors, in their discretion, deem
best they are authorized to make sale of the timber on said farms
separate and apart from the lands and buildings, and to sell the lands
and buildings in lots or as a whole as to said board shall seem best,
and to convey the same by proper deed to the purchaser or purchasers
thereof. The sum derived from the sale or sales hereby authorized
shall be paid into the county treasury and may be appropriated for
such county purposes as the board may prescribe.
2. In the event that the poor farms aforesaid are sold by the
boards of supervisors, it shall be the duty of the said board to make
proper provision for the care and maintenance of its poor in such
manner as may be determined upon by said board.
3. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
