Chap. 299.-—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 47 of chapter 199 of the
acts of assembly of 1832-33, entitled “An act appointing trustees for the
town of Christiansburg, in the county of Montgomery, and for other pur-
poses,” as amended. [S B 349]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
forty-seven of chapter one hundred and ninety-nine of the acts of
assembly of eighteen hundred and thirty-two and thirty-three, as
amended, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
section 47. The council shall annually order a levy upon all per-
sons within said town over twenty-one years of age and on all real
estate within said town not exempt by law from taxation and on all
such personal property and other subjects as may at the time be subject
to taxation by this charter; and not segregated by law for State taxa-
tion only; provided, however, that the tax on persons shall not exceed
one dollar, and the tax levied for general purposes shall in no year
exceed one dollar on the one hundred dollars’ worth of property, real
and personal, and this maximum rate of taxation shall not be increased
except by amendment to this charter.
