Chap. 190.—An ACT to provide for the appointment of a commission to study
the question of retirement of and pensions for the public school teachers of
the State of Virginia and judges and State employees. [H B 302]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That there
be, and is hereby, created a commission to make a scientific studv of
the question of retirement of and pensions for the public school
teachers of this State. Such commission shall be composed of three
members from the house of delegates, to be appointed by the speaker,
and two members from the senate, to be appointed by the president.
2. ‘The said commission is hereby authorized and empowered to
employ such clerical assistance, actuaries, and other help deemed neces-
sary by them, to carry into effect the purposes of this act.
3. The members of the commission hereby created shall receive
no per diem allowance, but may be paid their actual expenses while
engaged in their duties. When and after this act becomes effective
the commission shall meet and elect one of the members as chairman,
and another as secretary; and the secretary shall keep all records of
the commission. The commission shall make a report to the next
succeeding session of the general assembly of this State of its findings,
together with such recommendations as it may deem expedient.
4. An appropriation is hereby made, out of the funds of the pub-
lic treasury, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of one thousand
dollars, to be paid out upon the proper order, signed by the chairman
of the commission, upon the comptroller, who shall issue his warrant
upon the treasurer. |
5. Said commission shall likewise investigate and consider plans
and systems of disability and retirement pensions for judges and for
State employees, and make recommendation and report thereon to
the succeeding session of the general assembly.
