Chap. 102.—An ACT for the establishment of a liberal arts co'lege for women,
and to continue in force the commission on a liberal arts college for women.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That there
shall be established at some point more than thirty miles distant from
the University of Virginia, a liberal arts college for women.
2. Unless otherwise provided by law, the college shall be affilia-
ted with the University of Virginia as an integral part thereof, shall
be under the general supervision and control of the board of visitors
of the University of Virginia, and the [preemletit of the university shall
be president of the said college.
3. The standards of admission and graduation, for students of
the liberal arts college for women shall be the same as those from time
to time prescribed by the board of visitors of the University of Vir-
ginia, and the same undergraduate academic degrees shall be conferred
in the said college as those conferred in the college of arts and sciences
of the University of Virginia.
4, Students from Virginia and elsewhere may be admitted to the
college for women upon the payment of reasonable tuition fees, which
shall not for Virginia students be in excess of the tuition fee charged
to Virginia students in the college of arts and sciences of the Uni-
versity of Virginia.
5. The commission appointed under the provisions of the acts of
the general assembly of Virginia, approved February twenty-eighth,
nineteen hundred and twenty-eight, entitled “An act to provide for
the appointment of a commission to study and report to the next
session of the general assembly the advisability of establishing a liberal
arts college for women at one of the State teachers’ colleges, or else-
where; to provide for the expenses of the commission and the em-
ployment of the necessary technical and clerical assistants; and to
appropriate the money necessary to defray the expense of the com-
mission,” as the said commission is now constituted, is hereby con-
tinued with all the powers and authority conferred by said act, except
as herein prescribed, with the further power and authority to nego-
tiate and enter into an agreement or agreements with any person, cor-
poration, or institution with a view to securing a suitable site and
buildings for the college; provided, however, that any agreement or
agreements so made shall before becoming effective be submitted to and
approved by the general assembly. The commission is hereby directed
to collect and assemble such information as may be presented to it as to
the various locations and sites proposed to it, including the capital and
operating costs involved, and shall report to the next regular session
of the general assembly, its recommendation as to the location of the
college, without restriction to one of the present State teachers’ col-
leges, or any existing institution, and shall at the same time report
the probable cost to the State of the establishment, equipment, and
operation of the said college, and its recommendations as to a plan
of government for the college, together with any ether or further
recommendations designed to effectuate the purpose of this act. The
chairman of the commission shall mail to each member of the general
assembly, a copy of the commission’s report, on or before December
lirst, nineteen hundred and thirty-one.
