Chap. 526.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2095 of the Code of Virginia.
relating to prisoners on the State convict road force. [S B 105]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
two thousand and ninety-five of the Code of Virginia, be amended and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 2095. Every person held to labor in the State convict road
force for the non-payment of any fine imposed upon him, shall be
required to work out the full amount thereof, including the legal costs,
at the rate of fifty cents per day for each day so held, Sundays excepted,
and shall be entitled to a credit of twenty-five cents for each day of his
confinement, whether he labors or not. A statement of the amount of
the fine, with the costs and the number of days’ labor required to dis-
charge the same, shall be made out under the direction of the ofticer
imposing the fine, and delivered to the person in charge of the chain-
gang or superintendent of the convict road force at the time he receives
the delinquent. No person shall be held to labor in any chain-gang
for the non-payment of any fine imposed upon him for a longer period
than six months. :
