Chap. 335.—An ACT to authorize the chairman of the special board of directors
of the Western State Hospital to convey to the city of Staunton certain lands
for street purposes. [S B 279]

Whereas, at a meeting of the board of visitors of the Western
State Hospital, held in the city of Staunton, on February eighth, nine-
teen hundred and twenty-eight, the following resolution was unani-
mously adopted:
“Whereas, the Virginia State highway, known as route number
thirty-nine, or Jefferson highway, entering the city of Staunton from
the east, and the Virginia State highway known as route number
thirty-three, or Lee highway, entering the city of Staunton from the
south, are of insufficient width within the city limits to handle the in-
creased traffic over said routes: and,
“Whereas, it is desirable to widen said routes within the city of
Staunton; therefore, be it
“Resolved, by the special board of directors of the Western State
Hospital, That the city of Staunton, at its own cost and expense, is
hereby authorized, empowered and granted permission to widen its said
streets along said property of the Western State Hospital and to this
end to set back such fences and other property lines along the Western
State Hospital, which are now existing and abutting along said routes;
said fences to be reset in as good or better condition than at present,
and to establish perpetual rights of way for public streets along said
routes, in the city of Staunton, of an uniform width of fifty (50) feet;
provided the said right of way shall not be closer than fifteen feet to
the northeast end of ward building sixteen, seventeen and eighteen; and
the south property line to be on a straight line to the new corner on the
northwest corner of hospital lawn, fifty feet south of C. & O. railway
property right of way. The new property lines to be of good align-
ment and parallel, except at the intersection of the above-mentioned
highways, near the Chesapeake and Ohio arch bridge, the north-
western corner of the Western State Hospital grounds is to be further
set back and rounded, using a sixty (60) foot radius. . The side-
walks on above-mentioned streets to be located on the opposite side
of the streets from the hospital lawn. No highway trafhe on route
thirty-three, or Greenville avenue to be closer than twenty feet to the
present front gate, and proper slow down signs to be erected and main-
tained by the city north and south of entrance.” Now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
chairman of the special board of directors of the Western State Hos-
pital be, and he is hereby, authorized and empowered to execute,
acknowledge and deliver in the name of and on behalf of the Common-
wealth of Virginia, a proper deed conveying, with special warranty of
title, and without consideration, to the city of Staunton, a perpetual
right of way for street purposes, over and along the lands of the
Western State Hospital abutting on the above-mentioned streets in
the city of Staunton, pursuant to the terms of the said resolution of the
special board of directors of the Western State Hospital, and in ac-
cordance with a survey of the exact lines which shall be made by the
State highway commission.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
