Whereas, by an act of March fifth, eighteen hundred and twenty-
one, entitled “An act to amend the charter of the corporation of Frede-
ricksburg,” and
Whereas, by an act of March third, eighteen hundred and seventy-
one, entitled “An act to amend the charter of the town of Fredericks-
burg,” control of the police officers of said city was placed under the
control of the mayor thereof; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That control
of the police force of said city, as now or hereafter constituted, shall
be under the direction and control of the common council of the said
city, or of such official of said city as may be designated by the council
by ordinance.
2. So much of said acts of March fifth, eighteen hundred and
twenty-one, and March twenty-third, eighteen hundred and seventy-
one as conflict herewith and all other acts in conflict herewith, are
hereby repealed.
